Introducing the Top Mark Sailing Rankings

As the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics accelerates, sailors across North America are pushing harder than ever to prove themselves on the water. Today, we’re proud to launch a new initiative that will elevate that journey: the Top Mark Sailing Rankings — a dynamic, independently curated leaderboard system designed to highlight top performers in Olympic-class and shorthanded sailing.
Unlike traditional global rankings that favor European events, the Top Mark Sailing Ranking was built for America’s Olympic hopefuls, by sailors and supporters who understand what it takes to train, travel, and compete at the highest level. It’s a fresh approach to building meaningful momentum, right here at home.
The Why
Every four years, Olympic sailing captivates audiences with dramatic finishes and extraordinary talent. But the stories that lead up to those podium moments often go unnoticed—especially in the the US. Rising stars train in quiet coves, race in under-covered regattas, and fund their own way to the top tier competitions abroad.
The Top Mark Ranking Series gives these sailors a platform: a points-based, rolling leaderboard that rewards consistent performance across the most competitive regattas in North America. Athletes don’t need to fly across the Atlantic to be recognized—they can earn visibility and ranking by showing up and competing at home.
How It Works
For each supported class, the series includes pre-selected major regattas each calendar year. Sailors accumulate points based on their finishes, but only their top four results count toward their total score. This structure rewards excellence without overburdening sailors financially or logistically.
Rankings are updated after each event, and a live leaderboard will be available at sailing.topmarkcapital.com and forthcoming class-specific portals.
The Classes We Support
The Top Mark Ranking Series is launching with the ILCA 7 fleet in 2025, chaired by Daniel Escudero, a top U.S. Olympic campaigner, alongside our founding committee. We’re expanding next to the 49er class.
By 2026, we plan to support rankings in all Olympic sailing classes and shorthanded offshore sailing. Our goal is to foster a transparent, regionally focused ranking for aspiring sailors:
-
ILCA 7 (Men’s One-Person Dinghy)
-
ILCA 6 (Women’s One-Person Dinghy)
-
49er (Men’s Skiff)
-
49erFX (Women’s Skiff)
-
470 (Mixed Two-Person Dinghy)
-
Nacra 17 (Mixed Multihull)
-
Shorthanded Offshore
Each of these classes has its own racing style, community, and technical nuance—but they all share the same goal: Olympic excellence. By offering parallel ranking systems tailored to each class, we’re building a scalable framework that honors the diversity of Olympic sailing while keeping the focus local and accessible.
What’s Next?
We’re kicking off the ILCA 7 series in early 2025, with events across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The first full rankings will be published after the second regatta, and a full calendar of events will be released this summer.
If you’re a sailor, mark your calendar. If you’re a fan, start following the leaderboard. And if you’re an investor or sponsor looking to support the next Olympic champion, reach out—we’re building something powerful, and we’d love you on board.
